It is difficult to plan trips in advance given the variability of avalanche conditions. Most backcountry trips are organized through meetups.
The Big Sky Resort, situated just outside of Bozeman Montana and close to the West entrance of Yellowstone National Park, offers “the Biggest Skiing in America”. The four mountains of Big Sky offer 5,800 acres of terrain connected by 23 chairlifts, a tram, and 11 surface lifts. No surprise that this resort is consistently recognized in national ski magazines for short or non-existent lines! All levels of skiers can enjoy the 4,350 feet of vertical drop as the difficulty of trails are well balanced; 15% beginner, 25% intermediate, 42% advanced, and 19% expert. Check out the mountain and resort at www.bigskyresort.com
Our accommodations are a lovely ski in/out 4 bedroom & 4 bath condo with a beautiful stone fireplace and large hot tub located within a short walk of the mountain village. You can even ski home for lunch if you want. Trip costs include 4 nights lodging, 3 days skiing, round trip ski shuttle between Bozeman airport and the resort, and most meals (4 breakfasts, 3 dinners, and 3 après ski) - ALL of this for $1,200 per person sharing a double room.
This trip will be lead by long time club members, Pat Archer and Bud Wright. To secure your place on this trip pay a $500 deposit (by August 30 preferred), and the balance is due December 15. Register by paying through the club website OR check (payable to Ski Buddies) sent to Pat Archer at 2903 NW 77th St. Seattle WA 98117.
This 'family' oriented event features a snow castle, live music, FIREWORKS, snow sports competitions, and a poker run for all! There is also a “theme" to be announced, dressing according for fun on the hill is encouraged.
White Pass is Ski Buddies' Paul Horne's local mountain and he knows it well. The mountain offers, Alpine skiing, Groomed Nordic track and skate skiing, snowboarding (including terrain park), Back Country, and Marked Snow Shoe trails.
Ski Buddies will be staying right at the White Pass Village Inn Condo's. Amenities, some have on-suite wood stove in some rooms and GREAT outdoor heated pool. Keep in mind this is a family friendly trip.
Friday-check in and group casual dinner prepared by Paul starting at 4:15pm, till 8ish, likely inside the Nordic Center warming Yurt, followed by poolside BYOB and socializing afterwards.
Saturday – Breakfast foods are furnished in each unit, preparation is a group effort by occupants. Then snow play all day, lunch at members discretion - I recommend the High Camp Lodge. This is the main Carnival day of snow sculptures complete with a HUGE snow castle. This evening is a reasonably priced prime rib dinner or similar served in the lodge, OR join us in the Nordic Yurt for a dinner by Paul and drinks. Dinner is followed by a torch parade and fireworks display. Capping off the night is live music in the bar until midnight.
White Pass management is offering us group discounted Alpine lift passes and Nordic passes, prices to be announced. PLEASE email Paul once signed up and paid with how many passes you want, for what type and what days. I will be staying up there, Thurs. through Sun. The discounted passes will be offered through me, and are offered Fri, Sat, and Sun.
Sunday - Breakfast, then room check out, snow play rest of the day. Lunch is at members discretion.
This is a good value-oriented trip and fun annual event. Price is $225 per person, or per single bed, $450, for couple or queen bed. The snow is going to be epic this year, now is the time to ski White Pass!
Hope to see you at White Pass,
We will be staying in a custom-built log home 4 nights and 3 days in Eden Utah, near Snow Basin.
Trip includes 3 breakfasts and 2 dinners prepared by myself with help from the group.
Cost is $430 per single, or $860 for a couple or a queen bed. We have 3 queens and 5 single beds. Also, we will rent Suburban’s to get from the airport and ski areas as a group, then back to the airport.
We will also stop for dinner after skiing at a favorite haunt of mine at Cannella’s in SLC on Saturday night.
Day 1 will be spent at nearby Snow Basin
Day 2 will be up Big Cottonwood Canyon at Solitude
Then day 3 will be up Little Cottonwood Canyon at Snowbird or Alta
This is a great opportunity to ski the greatest snow on earth at world class ski areas. Clearly, unless you arrive in Salt Lake City early, you will need to take the same flight to and from SLC flights are:
Thursday, March 28th - Alaska 718 departs Seattle at 1:30pm, arrives SLC at 4:30pm.
Monday, April 1st, Alaska 717 departs SLC at 11:20am, arrives in Seattle at 12:20pm.
